A friend of mine Josh Bancroft has step up to the plate and put it all on the table. With Intel slashing away at staff like unharvested wheat, Josh has taken the Scoble approach and is opening up the conversation about Intel. I for one say BRAVO it really takes some brass ones to put yourself in the tenuous position he might find himself in but this is something that Intel desperately needs.
As a caveat I have been doing a bit of work with Intel and have seen some things from the inside that add even more weight to these comments. Intel is in a bad PR place and is loosing market share to AMD they desperately need to create what we are calling over at Feedia the Philosophy of Conversation. Old entrenched megacorps are starting to see the light and with quality stand up people like Josh doing the RIGHT thing, even if Intel still does not completely get it, it can only help that company.
Intel recently created a public facing blog and is blogging some internally but the company needs to take a long hard look at how being open in the ways that someone like Josh can be is an excellent idea. The market place is evolving and companies must become part of participatory culture and leverage the communities of passionate employees and customers by engaging them in open and honest communication. I applaud Josh for his guts and hope that Intel looks at how much Robert Scoble took the devil out of Microsoft with his bloggings and how the straight forward talk in his blog made a connection to people by being open and honest.

Duke University have created a cloaking technique that uses Metamaterial that could be used to actually cause invisibility. The possibilities are mind blowing and I am sure DARPA and every other military acronym are all over this. This so reminds me of my youth in talking with the father of a good friend who worked at Los Alamos. He said now guys I can reveal any current secrets but in 20 years you will more than likely see the implementation of technologies that would make things invisible and create a sustainable force field. That was in 1988! I wonder if this invisibility will put off a rainbow shimmer link in Predator movie. Lets hope we have some way of detecting who is in the room with us in the future or it will be hard to find any privacy

So Last night I went out to meet Marshall Kirkpatrick for his birthday extravaganza at Roses and Raindrops. Alex Williams, Russel Shaw and a
contingent of others were on hand to wish Marshall all the best for his
birthday. It was a good time and I just wish I had spent a little more
time talking to Marshall directly we kept swapping chairs to mix and
mingle with more folks but were only at the same table for a short
period last night. Well we will have a chance to meet up again soon
Marshall and Alex and I just recently went up to the Venture All Stars
event in Seattle and had a great time. Seven hours of driving in one day was a little nuts though but fun none the less.
The name of this Belgian place slips my mind, I wonder why… but they had a great beer menu and Marshall took full advantage.
Cheers to you on your Birthday Marshall, this is a big mile stone and like I said last night everything changes now!
**Marshall’s Birthday was actually a few days ago officially but the party was last night.

Well this is news, Intel is now “officially” blogging. IT@INTEL is kicked off and I am very glad to see this happen. I have motives that I must confess upfront to want to see this happen, however I think anytime a major corporation “gets IT” is a good thing. I have been referring to this in presentations that I have been giving as the Philosophy of Conversation.
“One of the key factors is teaching your organization how to take advantage of this technology. How to use comments and feed back to improve the flow of communication. Whether it be leaving comments on a blog or utilizing podcasts as “long voice mails” to correspond within a RSS feed channel, this is essential to take full advantage of this solution. It is also a great way to maintain your company’s IP and work product should an employee leave mid project.”
This conversation is key IMHO and is what must happen for companies to take advantage of the evolving web scape and the marketing changes that are becoming entrenched in the consumer mindset of the technosavvy and younger demographics. It comes down to your companies credibility in the market place in the minds of some of the most influential content creators in this web 2.0 world, those I ofttimes refer to as the blogeratzi. The correlation I often draw is with the advent of consumer reports, people started seeing it as a non-biased trusted source for information. I think that a blog can create a trusted and honest conversation in the same vein.
I can only hope this Philosophy can be embraced at Intel. Currently they have five public bloggers blogging under the Intel brand. I know of a few other Intel employees that are blogging but they are blogging for themselves.
Martin Curley is Senior Principal Engineer and Global Director of IT Innovation and Research at Intel Corporation managing a network of IT Innovation Centers catalyzing IT Innovation.
Martin (Marty) Menard is director of the Platform Capability Group, a part of the Information Technology (IT) group at Intel.
Jeff Moriarty is a Program Manager in the Enterprise Collaboration& Engineer group, part of Intel’s Information Technology (IT) group.
David Sward is a Senior User Experience Researcher at Intel Corporation, driving development and adoption of human-centered approaches to the design of new business solutions.
Nathan Zeldes is a Principal Engineer in Intel’s Information Technology group, Nathan has been with Intel since 1982.

I do not know what is going on but I have tried multiple times to post about the new Intel blog and every time I do it breaks the site ????? I have noticed some real buggy behavior with WP as of late over on Feedia and it is really chewing up some time every time I hook audio or video in. All the blank space in the iframe seems to get padded with junk and it shows up in RSS feed AGH!!!! Working to fix this blog and that one oiy!
