Sony is taking a big step into the 3D online community space with Home.

This is another evolution in the social media/networking space. Second Life from Linden Labs has been the leader in this space over the last few years but an onslaught of competitors are going to or all ready are moving fast into this space.

The power of the console for this environment is that the developers know exactly what is under the hood of the hardware and can keep a consistent and rich experience intact for the community.

“Sony will conduct a closed beta test for Home this April before rolling out the full version, which will be free for all those who download it, in the autumn.”

So it looks like this fall we will see how people take to this new Virtual Social experiment from Sony.

Look for more players in this space to emerge on console platforms because with US$ Spent Last 24h: $1,544,188 in Second Life everyone is taking notice.
